Cary Transit (C-Tran)

  • Town of Cary’s C-Tran Fares to Rise

    Town of Cary's C-Tran Fares to Rise

    Fares for the Town of Cary’s bus service, C-Tran, will increase on January 27 as part of a two-part, two year rate program approved by the Cary Town Council in October 2013. The first increase, which occurred in January 2014, was C-Tran’s first for its Fixed Route services since 2005; fares had not increased on Door-to-Door services since 2008.

    Patrons can expect the following changes:

    • a one-way Fixed Route fare will increase 25 cents to $1.50;
    • the discounted fare for seniors or disabled will rise 15 cents to 75 cents;
    • the Tier I Door-to-Door service will increase 50 cents for a one-way trip; and
    • the off-peak Tier II discount fare from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will increase $1 to $4 for a one-way trip.

    For fixed route passengers who use other regional transit services, the cost of regional passes, which are valid on C-Tran, remains unchanged, as do the Tier III fares for out-of-town destinations. Using the online trip planner, citizens can ride C-Tran to connect to Triangle Transit and Capital Area Transit to reach destinations in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.

    “C-Tran’s fare structure allows the Town to continue to offer riders safe, inexpensive and reliable transportation while ensuring good financial health of Cary’s transit system,” said Ray Boylston, Transit Services Administrator.

    During the current fiscal year, the C-Tran system (Fixed Route and Door-to-Door) marked over two million trips since the 2001 inception of C-Tran’s Door-to-Door service. In comparing the two most recent fiscal years, C-Tran recorded an average annual increase of 14 percent in ridership.
